Research
We research the conversations nobody optimises.
We research how machines converse with real people, and we take that research to where it is used.
Explore our researchOur philosophy
For there to be a conversation, you have to understand what was said, what was meant and when to reply. We work on all three at once, and we always start with the hard part.
In machines that converse there is a very well-drawn map and a whole territory left blank: the strong accent, speech affected by a disorder, the voice of an eighty-year-old, the language with few resources. It is not blank because it is impossible, but because it is expensive, slow and makes fewer headlines. We have worked there since 2005.
Read our manifesto-
01
Rigour, no excuses
Well-done science is the price of entry, not the final merit.
-
02
Nobody left out
A system is measured by how it treats those it serves worst, not by its average.
-
03
Land it or it doesn't count
A result that does not reach a use is not finished.
-
04
Open doors
International collaboration and co-creation are not programmes: they are our method.
